Activities

Dec 2017 - Jan 2018

1. This month we have provided cars to five families in need. We thank our donors for continuing to support Uplift’s car program. This program provides our clients with the capability to attain self-sufficiency in a faster time period. If you have a car in working condition, please consider donating it to Uplift. You’ll benefit a family and yourself by getting a donation receipt in the process.

2. We received donated stock in the month of December. If you donate stock or mutual funds directly to Uplift Charity, you can avoid paying tax on the gains and get a full donation receipt! Please contact Owaiz@UpliftCharity.org if interested in this tax efficient strategy.

3. Every second Saturday of each month, Uplift Charity holds its monthly food pantry at the West Coast Islamic Society aka Al-Ansar Masjid. We provide non-perishable items to our community members in need. In December, 120 families received more than 30 pounds of food.

4. We receive regular meat donations from our community. In December, we received meat from two goats, which we then distributed to our clients that are not eligible for food assistance. In January, we are expecting meat from five donated animals.

5. Our Children's Refugee Tutoring Program will resume this spring school quarter. We offer one-on-one tutoring from 10am to 11:30am every Saturday at Islamic Society of Orange County (ISOC), aka Garden Grove Masjid. We will be opening a new location in the coming months. We are currently looking for Arabic and Farsi speakers to be part of our tutoring team.

6. With the help of our community we have been able to provide our clients with furniture, food vouchers, and clothing items. Thank you to those who continue to donate each month.

  1. This month the Uplift team attended the Refugee Forum of Orange County. Uplift Charity is proud to be a member of a forum that discusses issues that directly affect the arrived and resettled refugees in our community.

  2. Uplift charity is able to routinely conduct jail visits to meet who are currently detained in Irvine. We support them with emotional support, books, and financial deposits.

  3. Uplift is signed up with Amazon Smile. For every purchase using the website smile.amazon.com, Uplift receives a donation. Amazon has setup this giving program which involves their clients. Visit Smile.Amazon.com and select Uplift Charity as the organization you’d like to support. You’ll see progress on how much you’ve helped to contribute to Uplift when you sign on each time. You may need Uplift’s tax ID number which is 20-5421204.

  4. Many companies have matching donation programs. If you give your Zakat or Sadakah to Uplift you can then double the amount through your employer’s matching gift program. We received matching gifts from around 10 different companies including Google, Cisco Systems, AT&T, Schneider Electric, Morgan Stanley, and others.
